Sister Sledge ft Kathy Sledge

Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge takes over KOKO with a set anchored in the group’s Philadelphia roots and their blend of R&B, disco and Philly soul. Formed by sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy, the group came up through church choirs, talent shows and local clubs before signing to Atco in the early 70s. The 1979 album We Are Family, shaped with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, tightened their sound and delivered staples like He’s the Greatest Dancer, We Are Family and Lost in Music. Through the 80s they leaned further into pop and funk across albums such as Love Somebody Today, All American Girls, The Sisters and When the Boys Meet the Girls, before exploring new directions in the 90s and 2000s.

Kathy Sledge, who stepped away in 1989 before returning for select projects, fronts this date, bringing the voice that carried many of the group’s defining tracks. The show draws across decades, balancing the sleek Chic-era grooves with the earlier soul foundations and later reworks, carried by close harmonies and a tight rhythm section.
