Alison Moyet

Alison Moyet returns to the stage on 15 October 2026 at The Glasshouse - International Centre for Music in Gateshead. First revealed in the early 80s with Vince Clarke in the synth-pop duo Yazoo, she shaped a vocabulary where drum machines and analog keys sit next to torch‑song writing. Her solo path drifts between pop, soul and blues, anchored by a contralto with a duskier grain and arrangements that move from electronic restraint to full‑band muscle. From Alf and Raindancing through Hoodoo and Essex, then Hometime, Voice and The Turn, she has traced a course from chart‑ready hooks to rawer songwriting and occasional orchestral detours. The Minutes and Other, made with producer Guy Sigsworth, circle back to a lean, minimal electronic frame, all texture and space. On stage, Moyet tends to braid new material with deep cuts, often folding in Yazoo titles that sit easily alongside later work. Sets favour pulse and melody, switch between ballads and machine‑edged grooves, and keep the focus on the song rather than the surface.
