Mike + The Mechanics

Founded in 1985 in the United Kingdom by Mike Rutherford during a Genesis hiatus, Mike + The Mechanics sits in a pop rock and soft rock register centered on songwriting, melodic choruses and a polished production. From its early days, the project brought together around Rutherford the singers Paul Carrack and Paul Young, with Adrian Lee and Peter Van Hooke, in a band format that works just as well in the studio as on tour. Mike + The Mechanics established itself in the late 1980s with tracks such as "Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)", "All I Need Is a Miracle" and "The Living Years", then continued in this vein with the albums Mike + The Mechanics (1985), Living Years (1988), Word of Mouth (1991) and Beggar on a Beach of Gold (1995). Their music blends accessible rock, adult contemporary pop and soul touches, propelled by the alternating vocals of Carrack and Young. After Mike + The Mechanics (1999), often referred to as M6, and then Rewired (2004), the group paused. Relaunched in 2010 by Mike Rutherford, Mike + The Mechanics adopted a new lineup with Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar on vocals, Anthony Drennan on guitar, Luke Juby on keyboards and Gary Wallis on drums. This second period gave rise to The Road (2011), Let Me Fly (2017) and Out of the Blue (2019), while extending on stage a repertoire shaped by British pop of the 1980s and 1990s.
