Primal Scream

Primal Scream play Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow on 4 September 2026. Formed in the city around Bobby Gillespie, the band has spent decades shifting shape: early jangle and psychedelia on Sonic Flower Groove, a tougher rock turn on the self-titled album, then the club-wise blend of rock, acid house and gospel on Screamadelica with Andrew Weatherall. The trajectory keeps bending with the soul and blues currents of Give Out But Don’t Give Up, the motorik, cinematic drift of Vanishing Point, and the abrasive electronics and dub tensions of XTRMNTR and Evil Heat. Later chapters like Riot City Blues, More Light, Chaosmosis and Come Ahead extend that habit of moving without settling.

On stage, Primal Scream fold guitars, rhythm machines and gospel colours into sets that slide from haze to propulsion. With Andrew Innes and Darrin Mooney anchoring the current line-up, the show leans on danceable pulses, psych textures and blunt edges rather than any single era. A Glasgow home date at the Barras, where the catalogue can breathe and switch gears in real time.
