Scala & Kolacny Brothers - 30-jähriges Jubiläum

On October 1, 2027, Scala & Kolacny Brothers will celebrate their 30th anniversary at the Stadthalle Cloppenburg. Since 1996, conductor Stijn Kolacny has shaped this distinctive, finely calibrated sound with a women’s choir, while his brother Steven writes the arrangements and provides the piano accompaniment. They became known for choral reinterpretations of rock, pop and indie songs— from Radiohead and Nirvana to Depeche Mode and U2— which they pare down to voices and piano, thereby revealing new nuances. In 2010 the project received an international boost when their version of “Creep” featured in the trailer for The Social Network; tours across Europe and North America followed.

For the anniversary, Scala & Kolacny Brothers reflect on the aesthetic of their albums On the Rocks, Dream On and It All Leads to This: measured tempos, closely voiced harmonies and a focus on atmosphere rather than effects. The repertoire is predominantly English-language, with occasional additions in French or German. This show traces the project’s development from a local choir to the international stage—intimate renditions close to the songs, carried by the choir’s collective voice and piano— with a programme that encapsulates the milestones of the past three decades.
