Info

Big Sugar brings its heavy blues rock and reggae-inflected pulse to London Music Hall in London, Canada on February 23, 2026. Led by guitarist and singer Gordie Johnson, the Toronto-born project has shaped a hybrid sound where saturated riffs, low-slung bass and dub-leaning rhythms meet psych shadings. From the raw snap of the 1991 debut and Five Hundred Pounds to Hemi-Vision, Heated and its French counterpart Chauffe à bloc, the band has shifted gears without losing its core groove. Later releases like Revolution Per Minute, the stripped-back Yardstyle and Eternity Now carry the same mix of electric grit and Jamaican influences, a thread long tied to bassist Garry Lowe and multi-instrumentalist Kelly “Mr. Chill” Hoppe.

On stage, Big Sugar stretches songs, plays with dynamics and lets the reggae undertow drive the rock forward. Thick guitar tones, harmonica colors, tight drum accents and bass lines built to move the room set the tone for a set that dips into different eras, reshaped live with a distinct blend of blues tradition and sound-system culture.
