Info
Black Marble, Chris Stewart's project, lands at Trabendo in Paris on April 7, 2027 with its tense, nocturnal synth-pop cold wave, born in Brooklyn in the early 2010s. Driving rhythms, minimal melodies, vocals subdued and low in the mix: everything is crafted to establish a cold yet immediate atmosphere, somewhere between darkwave and softened post-punk.
Revealed by A Different Arrangement (2012), shaped over several years, Stewart subsequently stretched the formula on It’s Immaterial (2016) by allowing a slightly more melodic line without relinquishing the rigor that is the project's hallmark. Since then, records have followed in quick succession (Bigger Than Life, I Must Be Living Twice, Fast Idol) with the same concise writing and this way of rendering melancholy as danceable. On stage, Black Marble achieves a balance: austere just enough, but always buoyed by the effectiveness of the synths.
