Bahamas

Bahamas, the project of Canadian songwriter Afie Jurvanen, brings a set built on understated writing and nuanced guitar work, where folk melody meets soul inflections and a warm pop touch. Raised in Toronto with Finnish roots, he first played guitar for Feist before stepping out solo with Pink Strat (2009) and Barchords (2012), which sketched the clean contours of his sound. Bahamas Is Afie (2014) refined those intimate arrangements and melodic clarity; Earthtones (2018) and Sad Hunk (2020) added looser, groove-led colors and a dry lyrical tilt. Bootcut (2023) opened a country-americana window without losing the lightness of his voice or the conversational guitar lines that thread through his songs.

Live, the music breathes: space in the mix, close harmonies, drums that leave room, bass lines that glide, and guitar motifs that carry the narrative rather than crowd it. Jurvanen’s writing leans on details, small turns of phrase, and rhythmic pockets that sit comfortably between folk, soul and soft-rock textures.
