Info
On February 27, 2027, at Théâtre Fairmount in Montreal, Mei Semones will take the stage with indie rock that is both soft and sinuously winding, nourished by chamber pop and harmonies that tilt toward jazz. Based in Brooklyn, the Japanese-American singer, songwriter and guitarist loves compact formats that are rich with surprises: flexible rhythms, guitar melodies that tell as much as the voice, and arrangements that can open up to strings without losing the pop thread. Bilingual, she moves between English and Japanese for intimate lyrics, between nostalgia, attachments and cultural displacements, with a direct way of conveying emotion without embellishment. On stage, her repertoire takes on a new dimension thanks to the band that accompanies her, capable of moving from a gentle caress to sharper, more angular tensions, sometimes bordering on math rock, while preserving a true clarity of song.
