Info
A promoter of Colombian music and tradition, this eleven-member orchestra has established itself in the field of cumbia. Nourished by early-20th-century jazz and faithful to the heritage of composer Lucho Bermúdez, the musicians of this ensemble have learned to work with traditions of the past to yield a modern, up-to-date sound with flavors of days gone by. Few European ensembles have earned the reputation of Cumbia Ya!. In recent years, cumbia, a popular expression in Latin America, has found a place in the programming of France's national stages. The Théâtre de Caen, the Besançon International Festival, and the Opéra de Lyon have entrusted this orchestra, which deftly blends its popular appeal with the elegance of the writing of this music, still relatively little known in orchestral form. A genre and format that attracts both young and older audiences and fosters the intergenerational exchange demanded by this venture. In twenty years of existence, Cumbia Ya!'s music has taken shape around the compositions of the orchestra's musicians. In residence at the Studio de l’Ermitage for more than 18 years, it is there that their compositions have taken shape in harmony with a loyal audience. There you can see this orchestra perform, feel the pulse of the cumbia, and enjoy the anecdotes born of the generosity and charisma of these musicians on stage.
