On Tuesday 9 February 2027, Erratic Batting brings Karate Boogaloo to The Jam Jar in Bristol for a night built around tight instrumental grooves and deep-pocket funk. Coming out of Melbourne’s DIY soul scene, the band has the rare chemistry of musicians who’ve grown up playing together: Henry Jenkins, Hudson Whitlock, Callum Riley and Darvid Thor have been locked into the same rhythm conversation since their early teens.
Expect music that slides naturally between classic funk, jazz-flecked passages and cinematic, library-style themes, with the kind of hip hop-ready breaks that make their sets feel both old-school and current. Think small-combo discipline in the spirit of The Meters or Booker T-style bandcraft, but with a playful edge and a shared language sharpened by years on the same wavelength. A few support DJs will warm things up, but the main event is that live, elastic groove Karate Boogaloo are known for.
