GoGo Penguin returns to the stage with the momentum of Necessary Fictions, an album in which the Manchester trio pushes even further its blend of jazz, minimalism and electronics. On 22 November 2026 at the Opéra de Limoges, Chris Illingworth (piano), Nick Blacka (bass) and Jon Scott (drums) present a set conceived as a plunge into their most recent writing: recurring motifs that interlock, highly melodic bass lines, and tightly segmented rhythms that grab you and keep the momentum going. In this new repertoire, the group opens the door even wider to electronic textures, between modular synthesizers, a Moog Grandmother and electric bass, without losing what makes their live show so compelling: a hyper-precise acoustic tension, carried by a nervy drum kit and clockwork-like dynamics. We move from finely honed piano jazz to organic electronica, with that eye for detail that evokes film music as much as certain club aesthetics, but always performed by three, live, close to the sound.
