While the name Bob Dylan initially evokes Greenwich Village folk, his career quickly surpassed that frame. A songwriter and composer born Robert Allen Zimmerman, he built, from the 1960s onward, a writing style that helped shift American songwriting toward something else: narratives, imagery, and a way of making the words sound as if they were taking a stance, without slogans. From The Times They Are A-Changin’ to Blonde on Blonde, he issued a string of albums that mark as much by their melodies as by their ability to catch the zeitgeist on the fly, and then, over the decades, he established a live relationship defined by long-running tours and continual reinventions.
