Danceperados of Ireland

Danceperados of Ireland – Life, Love and Lore of the Irish Travellers tour, an authentic show programme with Irish music, singing and dance, will be staged at Stadthalle Aurich on 13 January 2027. The enthusiasm for Irish step dancing is already evident in the name: Danceperados – freely translated as 'the dance-mad.' The Irish simply cannot help themselves; they dance, sing and play – it is in their blood. In the programme 'Life, Love and Lore of the Irish Travellers', Danceperados turn their gaze to the Irish nomads. The Travellers are a secluded minority with unusual customs and rituals. Many know them from historical films, where they travel across the countryside with horses and wagons. Superstition and the honour of the family play a major role in their lives, just as dance and music do. Some of Ireland's musicians and dancers were, or are, Travellers. Had the Irish nomads not, even in times when their subculture was deemed backward, clung to their traditions, Irish folk might have disappeared from the scene. Like Native Americans, the Travellers also had to endure the loss of their way of life. Yet from this nomadic culture arose a powerful musical vitality. The Danceperados tell their story in songs, dances and with a multimedia presentation. Danceperados stand out clearly from many other productions: here everything is performed live and danced. No playback, no stage illusions; instead spontaneity, improvisation and energy. The ensemble gathers a selection of Irish female dancers with numerous World Dancing Champion and All-Ireland titles. For the choreography, Michael Donnellan is responsible, himself a multiple World Champion. The musical direction is taken by accordionist Eimhin Liddy, accompanied by a quintet of accomplished female musicians.
