Info
Rhiannon Giddens arrives in Cork for a show at Cyprus Avenue on October 1, 2026. A singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from North Carolina, she’s built a singular path through American roots music, moving freely between folk, old-time, bluegrass, country, blues, gospel and jazz, with occasional detours into Celtic repertoires. Her voice and playing (banjo, fiddle and more) are always tied to a deeper curiosity for where these songs come from and how they’ve travelled.
First known for her work with Sankofa Strings and as a co-founder of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Giddens helped bring overlooked African-American string band traditions back into the conversation. Since then, her solo records have kept expanding the frame: from Tomorrow Is My Turn and Freedom Highway to her transatlantic collaborations with Francesco Turrisi, and the more direct, personal writing of You’re the One. She also writes for the stage, and co-signed the opera Omar, awarded the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Music.
