Info
Concrete Breaks never intended to have spatial limitations. The problems we face clearly transcend borders. Ultranationalism has returned as a force across the globe, with its actors seemingly serving local interests yet functioning as nodes in an international network. Their belief in transactionalism and aversion to democracy has empowered war criminals. Their selfishness and corruption has sold us out to power-hungry tech companies. Their xenophobia and revision of history has turned us against each other, all in the pursuit of rendering us powerless.
Our movement must also be transnational. The rave is a form of resistance that transcends culture or geography; it is a common language that communicates not only a devotion to the dance, but an ethos that is subversive of the status quo. While the powers that be keep us divided, we resist by forging spaces of inclusion and authenticity. The global order is cracking, and it’s our responsibility to ensure that light shines through. Ravers and artists have all devoted countless hours to building this community. The time has come to open our doors and connect our movement to the outside.
For our next event, Breaking Borders at Standard Time, we announce K-65 as our first international headliner.
Bristol-based DJ and producer K-65 is known for subby basslines and cutting breaks across multiple tempos. More recently incorporating heavy influence from the dark underground world of electro, his productions now fuse acid, wubs and 808s with whipping snares and rolling breaks. Aiming to make hard-hitting tracks for the UK’s dance floors, his productions strive to be high in energy and dark in flavour.
