Loreena McKennitt « The Mask and Mirror »

On 24 February 2027, Canadian songwriter and singer Loreena McKennitt will perform The Mask and Mirror at Koninklijk Theater Carré in Amsterdam. The 1994 album marks her expansion from Celtic folk into sound worlds that evoke medieval Spain, the Middle East and the Mediterranean. On stage she weaves ballads, instrumental pieces and musical adaptations of literary texts into a continuous narrative, supported by her voice and an acoustic ensemble with strings.

Since the 1980s McKennitt has been carving her own path on her label Quinlan Road, with Elemental, The Visit and later The Book of Secrets and An Ancient Muse. In concert she favours intimacy: a focus on melody, space and an approach to performance that puts the text at the centre. At Carré The Mask and Mirror takes pride of place, with a set that alternates between restrained passages and sustained, carrying rhythms. The result is an evening where tradition, poetry and travel intersect—precisely in the spirit of the repertoire that has guided her for years.
