On 19 September 2027, The Fisherman’s Friends bring the sound of Port Isaac to Brighton Dome, Brighton. Formed in 1995 by a group of Cornish fishermen and lifeboat crew, the vocal ensemble keeps sea shanties and maritime folk alive with close harmony singing. Their set leans on call-and-response work songs and coastal ballads, carried mostly a cappella and, at times, coloured by spare fiddle, guitar or accordion. The repertoire comes from the oral tradition and pub culture of their hometown, where songs kept time, shared news and passed the hours at sea.
On stage, the focus stays on the blend of voices, the natural rhythm of call-and-response, and stories of crews, storms and safe returns. The group’s plainspoken delivery underlines choruses built to be sung together, turning maritime tradition into a living, collective sound. An evening of shanties and folk harmonies from Cornwall, delivered by voices rooted in the world they sing about.
