Info

Azymuth bring their Brazilian jazz-funk to Union Chapel, London, on 12 October 2026, with special guests. Formed at the turn of the 1970s after an early run as Grupo Projeto 3, the trio forged a fluid blend of jazz, samba and funk they’ve dubbed “samba doido,” built on supple basslines, melodic keys and tight, percussive grooves. Their self-titled debut introduced club staples like Manhã and Faca de Conta, followed by Água Não Come Mosca, which carried their sound to the USA and Japan via Atlantic Records.

In 1979, Light As A Feather on Milestone featured Jazz Carnival, a disco-fusion hit that sold over half a million copies and stayed eight weeks in the UK Top 20. A prolific run through the 80s included Outubro, while the band appeared at Monterey and Montreux alongside figures such as Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, George Duke and Stevie Wonder. Since the mid-90s, their partnership with Far Out Recordings has yielded albums from Carnival and Woodland Warrior to Aurora, Fênix and, most recently, Marca Passo. Along the way, their tracks have been reworked by Theo Parrish, 4hero, Jazzanova, Roni Size and more.

Today Azymuth continues around bassist Alex Malheiros with keyboardist Kiko Continentino and drummer Renato Calmon, pushing their signature swing into new territory on stage.
