Info

Azymuth put on the map their own hybrid of jazz-funk and samba, which they christened "samba doido" (literally, "crazy samba"). Half a century later, the trio still stirs the same rhythmic melting pot with an energy that hasn’t lost its momentum. On 26 September 2026, at Casa Capitão in Lisbon, Alex Malheiros leads the current lineup in a concert that spans classics and recent material, leaving room for improvisation, springy bass, melodic keyboards and incisive drumming.

Marca Passo is the new full-length, the first following the passing of Ivan "Mamão" Conti in 2023 and the earlier loss of José Roberto Bertrami in 2012. On stage Malheiros takes on the task of keeping the sound alive and is joined by Dudu Viana on keyboards — a musician associated with Roberto Menescal, Marcos Valle and João Bosco — and Renato Massa on drums, who has worked with Ed Motta and, again, Marcos Valle.

Between jazz and funk and with a pulse that speaks to the dancefloors, Azymuth have engaged with electronic music and built bridges to several scenes, collaborating with 4hero, Madlib and Jazzanova, and being revisited by Theo Parrish, Ron Trent, Global Communication and Daniel Maunick. In Lisbon, that history takes shape in a set that prioritizes groove, dynamics and the distinctive Carioca signature that sets them apart.
