Info
Barrington Levy brings his unmistakable voice to Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on 13 May 2026. Raised in Clarendon, Jamaica, he first appeared alongside his cousin in The Mighty Multitude before striking out solo and recording in Kingston with producer Henry “Junjo” Lawes. His trajectory traces the shift from roots reggae to the early dancehall era, with formative releases like Bounty Hunter, Englishman and Robin Hood. On stage, Levy navigates rub-a-dub grooves and lean riddims with a melodic phrasing full of agile inflections, drawing on the sound system culture that shaped his style.
Expect a set built around essential cuts such as Here I Come and Under Mi Sensi, threaded with deeper selections from his late-70s and early-80s catalogue. Levy’s repertoire sits at the crossroads of reggae, dancehall and urban sounds, a space where his voice has been sampled, invited and echoed on both sides of the Atlantic, from Jamaica to the UK and North America. In concert, that history takes the form of call-and-response hooks, nimble toasts and slow-burning skanks, mapping a path from vintage rub-a-dub to digital currents without losing the pulse that made these tunes travel.
