Heaven 17 bring Penthouse and Pavement back to the stage at Roadmender, Northampton, on 20 October 2026. Born from the first split of The Human League, the Sheffield outfit — now centred on Glenn Gregory and Martyn Ware — shaped a synth-pop language where drum machines, punchy basslines and pop hooks lean into new wave, funk and a touch of soul. Their 1981 debut Penthouse and Pavement captured that mix: a “penthouse” sheen of city-night electronics set against the street‑level bite of the “pavement” side.

This show revisits the album in full, reconnecting its sharp social commentary and club-ready grooves. From the tight pulse of Play to Win and The Height of the Fighting to the pointed charge of (We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang, the set threads sequenced rhythms, stacked harmonies and sleek arrangements with Gregory’s warm baritone at the front and Ware’s electronic architecture underneath. Decades on, these tracks hold their shape on stage, balancing melody and message with the direct, minimal punch that defined early‑80s British pop.
