Info
Patti Smith brings her quartet to Helsinki, a close‑knit setup that keeps her work anchored in poetry and electric guitar. Born in Chicago and raised in New Jersey, she emerged from the late‑60s New York scene where spoken word, performance and rock crossed paths. That blend shaped a delivery close to declamation, carried by garage tension, art‑rock detours and folk shades.
After early readings and collaborations with guitarist Lenny Kaye, she formed the Patti Smith Group and released Horses (1975), Radio Ethiopia (1976), Easter (1978) and Wave (1979). Because the Night, co‑written with Bruce Springsteen, widened her audience without altering the core of her approach. She later returned to the studio with Dream of Life, Gone Again, Peace and Noise, Gung Ho, Trampin’ and Banga, while continuing to write and exhibit across literature and visual arts.
On stage with the quartet, songs are stretched or pared back, moving between early pieces and later material, with space for recitation and improvisation. Patti Smith Quartet at Veikkaus Arena, Helsinki, on 25 July 2026.
