Mother Soki

On May 12, 2026, Mother Soki will perform at the Monarch Bar in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Behind the name is a solo project from Minneapolis that gradually took shape during the years of study in Chicago. The songs move between dreampop, indie rock and a touch of shoegaze, with a penchant for the sonic aesthetics of the 1990s. Retro-tinged synths lay the foundation, dense guitar layers fill the space, and above them float airy, often multi-tracked vocals that suggest more than they spell out.

A defining feature is the contrast: down low a heavy, supporting rhythm and harmonic foundation, up top delicate, almost whispered melodies. Echoes of The Sundays, Imogen Heap and Cocteau Twins come through, without Mother Soki losing her own signature. Coming from the North American indie scene and primarily present online, she translates her studio universe into focused, texture-rich live pieces that foreground atmosphere and detailed depth.
