Roméo & Juliette has already attracted more than 11 million spectators worldwide. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the show occupies an important place in French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, where it drew nearly 2.5 million spectators, the production marked a generation. From the start it was embodied by the duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara. Audiences can once again see the original duo on stage. On March 25, 2028 at 2:00 PM at the LDLC Arena, the show returns in a reimagined version.
For Cécilia Cara, returning with Roméo & Juliette is important. “I was chosen at 15 to play Juliette, a role that marked the beginning of my life as an artist. Reuniting with it twenty years later, alongside Damien, was a striking moment, as if we had never parted but had been enriched by what life brought us. This return has a symbolic value: coming full circle, returning to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now feed the characters differently. The story continues to bring people together, to convey love and emotion. It is a joy to find Juliette and the French public again.”
In the same vein, Damien Sargue adds: returning after having taken Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably in Asia, carries a particular resonance. “This role has accompanied me since 2001, and rediscovering it today alongside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity that time has given us, gives this adventure a new outlook.”
With more than 9 million records sold and songs that have become part of French pop culture—such as Les Rois du monde and Aimer—Roméo & Juliette has left its mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years, the show has travelled across cultures and adapted to the changes of its time: new techniques, new staging codes, new audience expectations. While renewing itself, it preserves what makes its identity: familiar songs, a broad aesthetic and a taste for grand spectacle.
For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a great love story. It poses a question that remains current: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers it with enduring force, and it is this emotion that continues to be shared with audiences. Reuniting Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara more than twenty years after their debuts brings a new depth to the show, nourished by the experience gained over the years.
The return of Roméo & Juliette shows that some stories stand the test of time. In 2028, the show returns in a rethought version, incorporating new generational codes while preserving the essence that has made it successful for a quarter of a century: a timeless story, universal emotions and a recognizable musical signature. This comeback is accompanied by a new cast, new costumes and a new scenography, redesigned for today without altering the show’s DNA.
