Info
Roméo & Juliette has already brought together more than 11 million spectators around the world and will be presented on 26 February 2028 at 7:30 PM at the Zénith de Dijon. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the show has established itself while keeping its status as a work of French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, where it attracted nearly 2.5 million spectators, the production has entered the collective memory. A Proustian madeleine for a generation, it was embodied from the start by the duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara. Within the world of French musical theatre, Roméo & Juliette remains today the only show that allows audiences to see its original duo on stage.
For Cécilia Cara, returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is moving: “I was chosen at 15 to play Juliette, a foundational role that marked the beginning of my life as an artist. Reuniting with it twenty years later, alongside Damien, was a powerful moment, as if we had never been apart but had been enriched by everything life has given us. This return has symbolic value: coming back to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now nourish the characters differently. The story still brings people together, conveying love and emotion. It is a joy to find Juliette again and to reconnect with the French audience.”
In the same vein, Damien Sargue adds: “Coming back to Paris after taking Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably in Asia, has a particular resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and rediscovering it today alongside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity that time has given us, gives this adventure a different depth.”
With more than 9 million records sold and songs tied to French pop culture, including Les Rois du monde and Aimer, Roméo & Juliette has left a mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years, the show has traveled through cultures and adapted to the changes of its era: new techniques, new stage codes, new audience expectations. True to its DNA while renewing itself, it keeps what defines it: well-known songs and a carefully crafted stage aesthetic.
For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a great love story. It raises a timely question: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers it with a force that crosses the centuries, and it is this emotion that we continue to share with the audience. Reuniting Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara more than twenty years after their debuts is a privilege. Their presence brings a new depth to the show, nourished by their gained experience. Thanks to the audience, faithful since day one. Roméo & Juliette is, for me as for the company, a long-running adventure, and we are happy to write it together again in 2027.
Announcing the return of Roméo & Juliette is not a mere renewal. It is also proof that some stories, and above all love, transcend time. In 2027, Roméo & Juliette returns in a reimagined version, incorporating new generational codes while preserving the essence that has made it successful for a quarter of a century: a story, emotions, and a recognizable musical signature. This comeback comes with a new cast, new costumes and a new scenography, redesigned for today without altering the show’s DNA. We will not reveal everything now; the magic will be unveiled step by step. Stay tuned!
