Info
On December 8, 2026 Bilal performs at the Melkweg in Amsterdam. The Philadelphia-born singer moves between neo-soul, jazz and R&B, rooted in the Soulquarians scene and known for early stints with The Roots and Common. Live he weaves new and older material together: from 1st Born Second and the previously circulated Love for Sale to Airtight’s Revenge, A Love Surreal and In Another Life, made with producer Adrian Younge. The set centers on voice and band: flexible grooves, open harmonies and room for improvisation.
Bilal sings with a technique nourished by gospel and jazz, shifting from falsetto to gritty flourishes and playing with timing that remains close to hip-hop. His collaborations with the likes of Robert Glasper, Erykah Badu, Common and Kendrick Lamar fuel a stage energy in which themes from soul, funk and jazz freely intermingle. Expect reworkings of studio versions, subtle breakdowns and passages formed on the spot. Not an exercise in style, but a live experience that puts the song at the center and lets every layer — from melody to groove — breathe in the moment.
