Info
A Guy Called Gerald live together with Senda Fatal on 17 April 2026 at 21:59 at Teatro Magno, Madrid.
A Guy Called Gerald is a prominent figure in electronic music, associated with innovation and an independent career. He took part in the development of British dance music and was one of the catalysts of acid house in the United Kingdom with “Voodoo Ray” (1988), as well as contributing to the foundations of jungle and drum & bass in the years that followed.
Raised in Moss Side, Manchester, in a Jamaican family, Gerald grew up immersed in sound system culture and in the northern England underground scene of soul, funk and jazz fusion. His early training in contemporary dance shaped his musical approach: from the outset he created music conceived for movement, for the body, for the dancefloor. Inspired by New York electro-funk, Chicago acid house and Detroit techno, he began to weave a personal language combining those influences.
In the late 1980s he was a co-founder of 808 State, contributing to their debut album Newbuild (1988) and to the track “Pacific State”. At the same time, his “Voodoo Ray” became one of the emblematic tracks of British acid house, while “Blow Your House Down” made an impact on the underground scene in the United States.
In 1992 he released 28 Gun Bad Boy, considered one of the earliest jungle albums, and in 1995 he reinforced his role in the genre’s development with Black Secret Technology, which influenced the evolution of drum & bass.
His catalogue of remixes includes artists such as David Bowie, Cabaret Voltaire, Black Uhuru, Finley Quaye, Lamb, Tricky and The Stone Roses, but it is his independent original work that has defined his career.
With eleven albums and more than three decades of work, he remains active and performs internationally, maintaining his “True School” approach.
