Info
Candy Dulfer will perform on 28 May 2026 at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The Dutch alto saxophonist, shaped in the Amsterdam club scene, moves fluidly between jazz, funk and pop. The daughter of Hans Dulfer, she took up the saxophone early and, as early as fourteen, founded Funky Stuff. Things then moved quickly: the duet "Lily Was Here" with Dave Stewart gave her a major breakthrough. With Saxuality she launched a solo career that continues through to We Never Stop from 2022.
On stage her focus is on groove and melody. Tight themes, compact improvisations, and clear R&B influences. The alto sax sits at the heart of the sound, with riffs, breaks and short bursts that propel the songs forward. She draws from early favorites as well as newer material, leaving room for instrumental passages and songs.
Candy Dulfer is also a highly sought-after musical collaborator, both in the studio and live. The years alongside Prince sharpened her sense of arrangement and timing. In Groningen, this comes together in a set where written arrangements and open space meet, direct and without detours.
