Mark Lettieri

The American guitarist and composer Mark Lettieri will perform on 9 November 2026 at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Known from Snarky Puppy and projects such as The Fearless Flyers, he has, since the early 2010s, forged his own path in instrumental guitar music that brings together funk, rock, soul and jazz. On his solo albums — from Knows and Futurefun to Spark and Echo, Things of That Nature, the two Deep: The Baritone Sessions records and, more recently, Fly Through It — he foregrounds groove: tight rhythms, clear themes and harmonies with a jazz-tinged edge.

On stage his playing revolves around timing and tone color. Lettieri regularly uses baritone guitar, weaving deep bass lines into his melodic phrases and giving the whole a compact pulse. Expect a set that shifts between angular funk, spaciously arranged ballads and strong rock accents, with room for interplay and short, purposeful improvisations. No vocals, no frills: the guitar tells the story, supported by a band that carries the rhythm and sharpens the dynamics.
