Steve Ignorant Band

On 14 May 2026 Steve Ignorant and his band will play at Melkweg in Amsterdam. As singer and lyricist of Crass, he helped shape British anarcho‑punk in the late 1970s: a declamatory delivery, outspoken political lyrics and a tenacious DIY ethos that fused music, image and words. After Crass ended he remained active with Schwarzeneggar and Stratford Mercenaries and appeared alongside bands such as Conflict and Paranoid Visions. His wanderings as a Punch-and‑Judy puppeteer meanwhile sharpened his sense of narrative and his direct way of addressing an audience. In the 2010s he returned to the stage, first with tours revisiting the Crass repertoire, then with Slice of Life, more restrained and closer to spoken word. With the Steve Ignorant Band he carries those threads forward: punchy rhythms, words that land directly, and material that does not simply preserve the past but drags it into the present. The set brings his trajectory together, from raw punk energy to hushed storytelling, with a support act to warm up the crowd.
