Emmylou Harris

On 23 May 2026 Emmylou Harris will take the stage at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The American singer-songwriter from Alabama has worked since the 1970s in the tension between country, folk and americana. After her collaboration with Gram Parsons she released albums with The Hot Band such as Pieces of the Sky, Elite Hotel and Luxury Liner. In the decades that followed she explored bluegrass and more spare, acoustic formats, and with Wrecking Ball (produced by Daniel Lanois) her sound moved towards a more atmospheric approach. Later albums include Red Dirt Girl and Stumble into Grace, in which her own songwriting takes centre stage.

Live, the focus is on her distinctive voice, pared-back arrangements and a repertoire that shifts between traditionals, original compositions and carefully chosen covers. In Groningen Harris will perform a set that runs through her catalogue: from early work to songs from the later, more layered period. Intimate, melodic and song-focused, with room for detail and dynamics. An evening for those who appreciate the contours of country and folk bending towards americana, without losing sight of the story within the song.
