Info
Karat will bring their blend of melodic rock, progressive undertones and German-language pop sensibility to the stage at the Glocke in Bremen on 31 October 2026. Formed in East Berlin in 1975, the band around singer Herbert Dreilich and composer/keyboardist Ulrich “Ed” Swillms developed a sound that pairs poetic, often pictorial lyrics with distinctive keyboard lines and guitar-driven arrangements. From this period come Albatros (1979), featuring “Über sieben Brücken musst du geh’n,” and Der blaue Planet (1982), two milestones that still define the dynamic range between balladry, a prog shimmer and accessible rock.
After reunification Karat carried and recontextualized its repertoire across lineup changes, guided by a clear sense of the present. Since 2005 Claudius Dreilich has continued the vocals, audibly linking to the DNA of the early years without confining the band to mere nostalgia. Live, this yields a cross-section in which well-known pieces appear in fresh interpretations alongside later songs. Thus, at the Glocke in Bremen on 31 October 2026, audiences will experience a band whose signature is melodic breadth, precise rhythmic drive and vivid lyrical imagery—true to the originals, yet open to the moment.
