Stanley Clarke

Info

Stanley Clarke, the American bassist and double-bassist, will be in Bordeaux on June 6, 2026, for a concert at the Casino Barrière Bordeaux. A fixture of the American music scene since the early 1970s with Return to Forever, he has released more than forty albums and won four Grammy Awards. On both double bass and electric bass, he helped to shape the sound of fusion, blending jazz, funk and groove.

Throughout his career he has collaborated with Quincy Jones, Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Paul McCartney, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, The Police and Herbie Hancock. As a film composer, his credits include the scores for Boyz N the Hood, What’s Love Got to Do with It (the Tina Turner biopic), Romeo Must Die and The Transporter.

Onstage in Bordeaux, Stanley Clarke alternates between electric bass and double bass, moving between supple lines, rhythmic motifs and bowed passages. It’s an opportunity to explore a repertoire that spans his various periods and collaborations, presented by a musician who has left a lasting mark on his instrument both as a group player and as a leader.
