Oiseaux-Tempête & Friends:

Created in 2012 by the multi-instrumentalists Frédéric D. Oberland & Stéphane Pigneul, Oiseaux-Tempête is a collective with a variable geometry that, in the freedom of improvisation, transcends frontiers and cultures, forming an intersection where amplified musics (post/kraut/free-rock, jazz-punk, avant-garde, electronic) collide and find common ground — a refuge.

Fourth studio album and seventh release on the Belgian avant-garde label Sub Rosa, 'From Somewhere Invisible' opens with a new embrace. Abandoning for a time the logbooks of long journeys and the field recordings from previous albums, Oiseaux-Tempête's music unfolds as a twilight, prophetic orchestra around the chanted voice of G. W. Sok.

The poems of Mahmoud Darwish, Ghayath Almadhoun and Yu Jian question the modern man and his double, the strange/foreigner, the fragmented reality, violence, society and its mirror. The eyes we hide, the ones we should open. These compasses of the intimate that sometimes lift us up, together, in the midst of the ruins already there; there is always a black crow to defy the horizon.

Edited and mixed in a back-and-forth between Montreal and Paris, 'From Somewhere Invisible' conjures the fever of experimentation and the sonic power of playing together in the service of a lush and willingly psychedelic drift. Synthetic brass respond to hammered rhythms, the electricity of the strings to cracked electronics, saxophone cries and bursts of laughter to the pulsing, seminal bass.

Jessica Moss:

Best known as a member of The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, Jessica Moss was also a founding member of the pre-klezmer Black Ox Orkestar. She has also recorded and toured with Vic Chesnutt's group for the two albums released on Constellation Records, and has worked closely with Carla Bozulich's Evangelista.

Although she has played violin for almost her entire life, Jessica has never felt more at ease than in collaborative settings and has always been firmly attached to group practice. The inherent experience of creating and performing in a group has shaped her personality and given her a deep understanding and respect for group dynamics as well as for 'work communities' in general.

Alone in her rehearsal space, equipped with tools, methods and experiences gleaned during her years in studios, rehearsal spaces, performances and tours, Jessica Moss began to build her own distinctive style and structure. The music that emerged is detailed and narrative, evoking images with sounds, melodies and a few lyrics, and telling the demanding (urgent) stories of troubled periods. Writing by ear and from memory but never on paper, Jessica Moss designs performances in which she combines violin, a multitude of pedals, a microphone and three amplifiers.
