Info
On 14 June 2026 at Royal Festival Hall, London, Kamasi Washington marks the centenary of John Coltrane and Miles Davis with a concert devoted to their music. The Los Angeles saxophonist and bandleader draws from both catalogues, weaving signature themes and deeper cuts into new arrangements. The set balances tight ensemble writing and open improvisation, bringing these pieces into the present with fresh energy and clarity.
A multi-instrumentalist born and raised in LA, Washington moves between modal heritage, spiritual jazz, soul and funk with an orchestral sense of scale. His path runs through The Epic, Harmony of Difference, Heaven and Earth and Fearless Movement, and through the West Coast Get Down and the supergroup Dinner Party. Beyond his own records he has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Herbie Hancock and Florence + The Machine, and composed the score for the Michelle Obama documentary Becoming. He has also revisited other icons before, covering Metallica’s My Friend of Misery for the Metallica Blacklist project — a clear precedent for this night of jazz legends reimagined.
