The Commodores, Village People

Info

The Commodores with special guest Village People take over the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino on May 17, 2026. Formed at the end of the 1960s on the Tuskegee campus in Alabama, the Commodores built a sound rooted in funk, soul and R&B, first sharpened on the college circuit and then under the Motown banner. From the instrumental drive of Machine Gun (1974) through Caught in the Act and Hot on the Tracks, the group broadened its palette in the late 1970s with smoother soul-pop ballads on albums like Commodores, Natural High and Midnight Magic, while keeping tight rhythm sections and brass at the core. After Lionel Richie’s departure, they carried on with Heroes, In the Pocket and Commodores 13, before Nightshift (1985) became a career marker. On stage, they draw from this 70s–80s catalogue.

Born in New York in 1977 under the impulse of producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo with singer Victor Willis, Village People shaped a vocal group designed for the disco floor, each member embodying a character — policeman, cowboy, construction worker, or a performer in Native American headdress. Built on big choral hooks and straight-ahead rhythms, their songs aim squarely at collective dance. YMCA, Macho Man and In the Navy set the tone across albums from Village People and Macho Man to Cruisin’ and Go West. Decades on, the group continues to tour with that late-70s disco repertoire and staging.
