Info
On 24 April 2027, Richard Thompson will perform at De Melkweg in Amsterdam. The London-based guitarist and singer-songwriter built his name from the late 1960s with Fairport Convention, with which he helped shape British folk-rock. Since leaving Fairport Convention in 1971, it has been mainly about his own path: songs that lean on traditional folk, but also make room for electric rock and country inflections.
Live, that comes together in a set where virtuosic, melodic guitar playing never loses sight of the narrative. Thompson writes characters and scenes with a dark edge and a dry wink, as he did on his early solo work and later on the duo albums with Linda Thompson. Do not expect a nostalgic retrospective, but an artist who continues to redraw his catalog on stage, from intimate acoustic moments to robust, sharply drawn songs.
