Info
On January 28, 2027, Brighton Dome hosts a double bill that draws a straight line from post-punk tension to noisy, melody-first guitar pop: The Jesus and Mary Chain alongside The Psychedelic Furs.
The Jesus and Mary Chain, built around brothers Jim and William Reid, made their mark by pairing tight pop songwriting with abrasive distortion, a signature already clear on Psychocandy. Over the years, they’ve shifted the focus without losing that core push-and-pull, from the leaner mood of Darklands to later records that open the palette with different tempos and textures. Expect sharp hooks wrapped in feedback, with the band’s direct, unfussy sense of melody front and center.
The Psychedelic Furs bring a different shade of urgency: taut guitars, restless bass lines, keyboards and sax touches, all carried by Richard Butler’s husky voice. Starting in London’s late-70s post-punk scene, they grew into a darker, more melodic new wave and alternative rock sound, with songs that balance nervous energy and open choruses. This set should feel like a tour through those eras, from early punch to later, more expansive writing.
