On June 2, 2027, Angélique Kidjo will be in Toulouse, at the Casino Barrière, for a concert where her voice and her polyrhythms connect West Africa with the music of today. Born in Ouidah, she has built a repertoire nourished by Fon and Yoruba chants, Afro-Cuban echoes, pop and soul, with her own distinctive way of keeping the grooves flowing without ever smoothing them out. On stage, one finds that blend that runs through her major albums, from Parakou to Logozo, Ayé to Oremi, and then the more direct bridges between American soul and Afro-Latin traditions. Kidjo alternates between original songs and reinterpretations, switches from one language to another — Fon, Yoruba, French, English — and plays with the audience's responses, the choirs, and tempo changes.
