On 21 September 2026, Le Pop-up du Label in Paris hosts Chinese American Bear alongside Alice Costelloe for an evening of indie pop.
Chinese American Bear, a Sino‑American duo formed by Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten, writes bilingual pop in Mandarin and English where memory, language and food intersect. Born during lockdown, the project blends direct melodies with everyday details, slipping dumplings, noodles and boba tea into luminous choruses. After a debut album in 2022 and Wah!!! in 2024, Dim Sum & Then Some, released in May 2026, continues this simple, sensitive songwriting, balancing domestic warmth with a mild summer melancholy. On stage, the duo embraces a playful offbeat sensibility—sometimes appearing with mascots and backing vocalists—without losing the light momentum of their songs.
Opening the evening, English artist Alice Costelloe, formerly of Big Deal, continues her solo shift toward a more stripped‑back art‑pop and indie pop. The EPs So Neurotic (2023) and When It’s The Time (2024), followed by the album Move On With The Year in 2026, shape restrained tracks with fine textures, produced alongside Mike Lindsay. Guitars give way to keyboards and airy arrangements, serving lyrics that probe family ties, grief and the process of rebuilding oneself.
