Beverley Knight brings her Born To Perform Tour to York Barbican in York on 20 June 2026. Rooted in a Pentecostal choir upbringing in Wolverhampton and a Jamaican family heritage, she weaves soul, contemporary R&B, neo-soul and a clear gospel thread into a live set that moves with ease between groove and melody. Since The B-Funk in 1995, she has marked each era with a distinctive tone and songwriting shift, from Prodigal Sista and Who I Am to the pop-tinged Affirmation, then Music City Soul, 100%, the covers project Soul UK, Soulsville and, most recently, The Fifth Chapter. Her time on major stages and in the West End—The Bodyguard, Memphis, Cats, The Drifters Girl, Sylvia, Sister Act—has sharpened her storytelling and stagecraft without diluting the rawness of her voice. Expect a live band that leans into gospel harmonies and R&B rhythms, new tracks from The Fifth Chapter rubbing shoulders with earlier favourites, and a few nods to the British soul catalogue she has celebrated.
