Editors

Editors will be appearing at La Condition Publique in Roubaix on 18 June 2026. Formed in Birmingham in 2002, the band led by Tom Smith, Russell Leetch and Ed Lay established itself at the heart of the post‑punk revival with dark‑guitar rock and a deep voice that made an impression as early as The Back Room and then An End Has a Start. The synthetic turn begun on In This Light and on This Evening opened a new phase, followed by a lineup change with the arrival of Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams. This metamorphosis steered Editors toward more atmospheric rock and darker‑tinged pop on The Weight of Your Love, In Dream and Violence, coalesced in the compilation Black Gold.

Since 2022, the addition of Benjamin John Power has reinforced the band’s electronic dimension. On EBM, synthetic textures and industrial‑tinged pulses come to the fore without erasing the post‑punk drive of their early work. In concert, Editors assemble these different periods into a set that blends signature songs and recent material, taut guitars and edgy keyboards. In Roubaix, the band appears to favour continuity over nostalgia, with staging designed to let Tom Smith’s voice breathe and to showcase the rhythmic dynamic that has propelled their trajectory for more than twenty years.
