Epica

On 29 January 2027 Epica will perform at the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam. The Limburg-based band led by guitarist and songwriter Mark Jansen has operated since 2002 at the intersection of symphonic metal, death-metal influences and dark, gothic hues. Live, the performance centers on the interplay between Simone Simons’ clear mezzo and the growled vocals, propelled by orchestrations, choral layers and massive riffs. The whole shifts smoothly from bombast to subtle detail, with progressive structures and tempo changes that keep the tension taut.

The set digs into the early material from The Phantom Agony and Consign to Oblivion, moves through The Divine Conspiracy and Design Your Universe, and continues toward The Quantum Enigma, The Holographic Principle and Omega. Broadly developed arrangements are given space by acoustic and piano passages, while subtle electronics introduce new colors. Isaac Delahaye delivers melodic leads, the rhythm section keeps things tight and grooving, and keyboardist Coen Janssen expands the sonic palette. Epica builds layer upon layer toward moments where choir, orchestra and band converge, without losing their melodic anchor.
