DJ Krush

On 10 October 2026 DJ Krush will perform at Melkweg in Amsterdam. The Tokyo-born producer and DJ Hideaki Ishi (1962) grew up with the early Japanese hip‑hop scene: first through breakdance crews, later with Krush Posse. Early on he chose an instrumental approach to hip‑hop: slow or broken drums, dark textures, dub- and ambient‑tinged atmospheres, with clear jazz and soul influences. That signature is audible from Krush (1994) and onward on Strictly Turntablized and Meiso (1995), via Ki‑Oku with trumpeter Toshinori Kondo, up through Kakusei, Zen, Shinso and Jaku. Recent releases such as Butterfly Effect, Kiseki, Cosmic Yard and Trickster build on that foundation.
