Info
On October 17, 2026 at Théâtre Beanfield in Montreal, Amsterdam-based composer and pianist Joep Beving brings his unhurried, neo-classical pieces to the stage. He writes for solo piano with slow-building motifs, clear harmonies and a muted touch, keeping melody upfront and giving room to silence and resonance. From the self-released Solipsism (2015) to Prehension, Henosis and Hermetism on Deutsche Grammophon, his path moves between minimalism and ambient shades, with music often heard on screen yet rooted in an intimate, close-at-hand sound.
Live, Beving shapes a continuous narrative more than a sequence of showpieces, letting patterns settle and evolve at their own pace. The experience leans on dynamics and decay, from barely-there openings to chords that hang in the air. He sometimes broadens the frame with collaborators like Echo Collective or cellist Maarten Vos, and has worked with light artists Nick Verstand and Boris Acket, but the core of the evening remains the piano and the space around it, where time stretches and small details do the talking.
