Info
Danyèl Waro makes a stop at the Cabaret Sauvage on June 7, 2026. A leading figure of Réunionnais maloya, he has, since the 1980s, championed an acoustic practice focused on the voice, choirs and traditional percussion. On stage, roulèr and kayamb keep the beat while call-and-response singing establishes a tense yet warm dialogue. He sings in Réunion Creole texts that intertwine the personal and the political: the memory of slavery, today’s social realities, and questions of identity. His repertoire alternates slow laments and trance songs, with inflections sometimes close to the blues, creating a collective experience built on rhythm, speech and listening.
As much a poet as a singer, Waro works with language as a living material, extending the language of everyday life. His committed path fuels a grounded, direct maloya, shaped through landmark albums such as Aou Amwin?, Batarsité, Bwarouz, Tinn Tout and Monmon, and through countless performances across Europe and the Indian Ocean. At the Cabaret Sauvage he comes to share this raw, sung group energy that holds fervor, social chronicle and Creole pulse together. See you at the Cabaret Sauvage, Paris 19th arrondissement, on June 7, 2026.
