Lizz Wright

Lizz Wright will perform on 9 July 2026 at Caprera in Bloemendaal. The American singer from Georgia was raised in a minister’s family and found her first stage in the church choir, with gospel as her starting point. In Atlanta she added jazz to her palette, which is already evident on her debut Salt (2003): original songs alongside carefully chosen covers, between jazz, soul and gospel. With Dreaming Wide Awake (2005) and The Orchard (2008) she moved toward folk and a more restrained storytelling style; Fellowship (2010) returns to spirituals. Freedom & Surrender (2015) and Grace (2017) emphasize soul and Southern roots, the live album Holding Space (2022) captures her band in full dialogue, and Shadow (2024) builds on that with ballads, spirituals and acoustic hues.

At Caprera’s open-air theatre, Wright brings that mix to life with a band that leaves room for dynamics and interplay. Expect a set that builds organically, from intimate ballads to pieces with more groove, with space for new material and reinterpretations from the American songbook. The common thread: her deep, warm voice, a measured delivery that lets the lyrics breathe, and a sound firmly rooted in the African-American tradition.
