Élie Semoun « Cactus »

On March 17, 2027, Elie Semoun presents “Cactus” at the Opéra de Limoges. For this eighth show, he moves further toward a more pronounced stand-up format without letting go of his characters. True to his writing, which alternates between intimate asides at the microphone and performed sketches, he takes a close look at the times and restates his authorial obsessions after more than thirty years on stage.

You encounter Jean Abdul, who will open the show, a son who accompanies his father to visit a nursing home, Xavier, who lives with a motor disability and introduces his wife to his mother, and even a racist karate instructor. Sexual harassment, religion, intolerance, taboos, injustices: sensitive subjects are not avoided. Through this new gallery, “Cactus” alternates stand-up and character pieces to highlight very topical situations and their shadowy aspects, with a tempo designed for the stage and a direct gaze that embraces its sharp angles.
