Toontje Lager

On 11 September 2026 Toontje Lager will perform at Q-Factory in Amsterdam. The band emerged in the late 1970s as part of the Nederpop wave and built, around singer Erik Mesie, a sound defined by clear guitars and prominent keyboards. The songs are narrative and close to everyday life, with choruses that stick without fuss.

From Erop of eronder (1982) to Teken van leven (1984), there is a throughline of concise pop songs that color the band’s repertoire. Stiekem gedanst, the 1983 single, is a fixed reference point in the set; album tracks are also given room to breathe. Live, it’s about timing, harmonized vocals and that early-1980s sound in which pop and accessible rock meet.
